When you suffer from allergic reactions, especially if you have more than one allergy, it can feel as though your body and mind are not on the same page. Whether it is a food or environmental trigger, an allergic reaction can cause you to always worry about what you eat or what is present in the air around you. Here at Insight Urgent Care, we empathize with anyone who suffers from allergic reactions and take allergic reaction treatment seriously. As such, we would be happy to provide exceptional allergic reaction treatment to you to help you feel more in control of your life!
The four different types of allergic reactions are as follows:
Type I: Immediate hypersensitivity (Anaphylactic reaction): Anaphylactic allergic reactions are the most common and potentially most severe, specifically when anaphylactic shock occurs. Examples include food allergies, insect bites, pollen, and animal dander.
Type II: Cytotoxic reaction (Antibody-dependent): Examples include blood transfusion reactions, newborn incompatibility, and various autoimmune diseases.
Type III: Immune complex reactions: Examples include rheumatoid arthritis, farmer’s lung, and lupus.
Type IV: Cell-mediated (Delayed hypersensitivity): Examples include allergic contact dermatitis, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
While Type II through IV often requires specialized treatment, we can provide excellent allergic reaction treatment at Insight Urgent Care for any Type I reaction that is not life-threatening!
If you are concerned that your allergic reaction could be at all life-threatening, you should go to your nearest emergency room immediately. However, for any allergic reaction that requires medical attention but is not life-threatening, an urgent care clinic is a great place to go! If you are unsure how to tell if your allergic reaction is potentially life-threatening, look for any of the following symptoms:
• Breathing difficulties
• Chest tightness
• Feeling as if you might pass out
• Hives covering your body
• Numbness or tingling in your lips, the palms of your hands, or soles of your feet
• Rapid breathing or pulse
• Severe abdominal pain
• Swelling of the mouth or throat
• Vomiting
• Wheezing
For any allergic reaction that presents less severe symptoms, such as a contained rash, pink eye, frequent sneezing, and others, an urgent care clinic can take excellent care of you! Here at Insight Urgent Care, our experienced physicians would be happy to evaluate and treat your allergic reaction to help you feel better again.
The length of time it takes for an allergic reaction to go away depends ultimately on the type and severity of the reaction in question. However, the longer the allergic reaction lasts does not necessarily mean the more severe it is, as many minor allergic reactions linger for an extended period. In contrast, some severe allergic reactions act fast and furious. For example, anaphylactic shock, also known as anaphylaxis, is a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can come on in minutes or hours and reach peak severity within five to 30 minutes of occurring. In most cases, anaphylaxis goes in a matter of hours, with rare cases lasting up to three days. On the other hand, minor allergic reactions, such as a skin rash or allergic rhinitis (commonly referred to as hay fever) often last two to three weeks.
When you come to Insight Urgent Care for an allergic reaction, our board-certified physicians can evaluate your symptoms and the severity of your particular reaction to provide you with proper treatment and a prognosis for when it should get better.
